Consultants in super speciality departments redesignated

PANAJI: With an aim to strengthen functioning of Goa Medical College (GMC) and to get recognition for it as super speciality premium health teaching institute in the country, Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Saturday announced redesignation of consultants in super speciality departments in GMC.

He said that with the decision on redesignation of consultants in various super specialities, in the next three years we will get 21 additional resident doctors in various specialities.

He said that in department of urology we will get around 2 MCh seats a year, department of cardiology 2 DMs, department of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery 1 MCh seat per year, department of cardiac anesthesia 1 PDCC (anesthesia) seat per year, and department of endocrinology will get 1 DM seat per year.

Rane said that the students who pass MD/MS would get an opportunity to pursue further studies in super speciality of their choice in the state itself.

“The students while pursuing post graduate studies (MS/MD) would get exposed to various super speciality departments as part of rotation during their training period and once the proposed super speciality block under the PMSSY scheme is ready, the super speciality departments would be fully functional and recognised as teaching departments.”
