PANAJI: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) will have new building, revealed the Mayor Surendra Furtado and added that the building will come up at the site of its existing Portuguese-era building.

The new building will house government offices and regional bank offices, Furtado said adding there will also be a provision for parking 300 cars and 50 trucks.

Addressing the media, the Mayor said right now the plan is in preliminary stages and Anand Kulkarni & Associates has presented stunning visuals of the proposed complex having a mixture of Portuguese and Latin architecture.

He said that he visited the Chief Minister at his Altinho residence with a letter urging him to be present for the presentation, wherein all the councillors will also be invited for the same, and added that he brought to his notice that the corporation has not been receiving government assistance for the last few years and as such the corporation has been facing difficulties in managing its affairs efficiently.

He said the new building is going to be CCP Square with a café and other shops.

Presently, there are nearly 25 shops and all will be accommodated in the new building, he added.

He said that he has demanded to release salary grants for the year 2011-12, 2013-14 and 2014-15, sanction of government grants for 74 developmental works in various wards, land acquisition for development and beautification of Miramar, besides other development works in Panaji and procurement of machinery as mentioned in a letter addressed to the Directorate of Municipal Administration on February 17, 2017.

Furtado said that the CCP has 16,000 square mtrs of land in Curca and “we can set up a garbage treatment plant there” as High Court has passed an order to that effect.

He added that the CCP will clear the Curca land of garbage dump like that of parade ground and keep a mulching machine and construct an animal shelter there.

He said that the new CCP building would have entrances on all four sides and have built-up area of around 12,000 sq mtrs excluding balcony, staircases, and corridors.

“The CCP is also planning to buy Bainguinim plot and the Chief Minister will speak to the MLA on that issue,” he informed.

Within next 15 days, the residents of Panaji will see that the nagging garbage issue is resolved once and for all, the Mayor concluded.
