Ore transportation from Rivona and Maina via Tilamol and Quepem remained closed on Monday with members of Mission Bypass, some NGOs and locals who assembled at Tilamol junction where two women were run over by a truck proceeding to load ore some days ago.
Later the protestors submitted a memorandum to the deputy collector Shankar Gaonkar in his office which is addressed to the South Goa collector.
The memorandum states that the core committee of Mission Bypass has unanimously decided to oppose mining transport till a mining corridor is in place. It further states that it is their bitter experience since 2008 that all the assurances given by the then government were not fulfilled.
The memorandum also states, “The policy of the government regarding the mining activities and e-auction ore in Sanguem and Quepem talukas has never been clear and transparent as was requested. No government authorities have assured us about the safety of human life during ore transportation and the mining activities are not being carried out as per the guidelines issued by the Supreme Court.”
