In two major decisions, the Mormugao Municipal Council on Wednesday resolved to implement 7th Pay Commission to its employees and regularise daily-wage workers who have worked for five years and above.
The resolution to implement the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission was unanimously passed during the ordinary meeting of the council which was chaired by the chairperson Deepak Naik.
The 7th Pay Commission will benefit 250-odd employees wherein the municipal authorities will have to bear additional burden of Rs 30 to Rs 40 lakh per month in order to disburse the salaries of the employees. The resolution will be forwarded to the directorate of municipal administration. Under the Sixth Pay Commission, the MMC spends Rs 89 lakh per month towards salaries of the employees. The implementation of 7th Pay Commission will take the figure of the salaries of all the employees to around Rs 1.30 crore a month.
Complying with the directions of the state administration, the MMC has also resolved to regularise services of daily-wage workers who have completed five years of service.
Speaking to this daily, MMC chairperson Naik said that the municipal authorities had not implemented the 7th Pay Commission due to financial constraints. “Now, the municipal authorities will have to bear additional burden of Rs 30 lakh in order to implement the 7th Pay Commission,” said Naik and urged the government to disburse additional salary grants to the MMC in order to implement the 7th Pay scales.
Naik said that regularisation of daily wage/contract workers is an important
decision.
“The MMC has followed instructions of the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and Urban Development Minister Francis D’Souza over regularisation of daily-wage workers. The issue pertaining to regularisation was discussed in a joint meeting which was chaired by Chief Minister recently,” added Naik.
In yet another important decision, the council has unanimously cleared the proposal for beautification and development of Maimollem lake forwarded by Vasco MLA Carlos
Almeida.
Vasco MLA Almeida has already got the financial sanction from the government to develop and beautify the lake.
The other issues discussed in the council meeting were as regards garbage problem, dilapidated condition of municipal school building, MPT’s eviction notice to the residents of Bogda and Jetty in Headland-Sada and so
on.
