MARGAO: The additional district and session judge South Goa on Friday ordered framing charges against a doctor from Goa Medical College (GMC) Bambolim for causing the death of a 17-year-old girl from Vasco, who died due to medical negligence in 2010.
The court has ordered that Shridhar Raghuvir Pai, from a Vasco-based hospital has been discharged while ordering to frame charges against Dr Dilip Amonkar from GMC, and Dr Shantaram Surme from Vasco.
The 17-year-old girl was admitted to Pai Hospital on July 2, 2010 where she was operated and discharged after three days. She was admitted to GMC on July 10, 2010 with severe abdominal pain. The girl died at the Goa Medical College and Hospital on July 29, 2010.
The girl’s family members had lodged a police complaint against Pai Nursing Home, Vaddem-Vasco, where she was operated for appendicitis and subsequently referred to GMC, after her condition deteriorated.
“A team of doctors consisting of Dr Sapeco, Dr Madhu and Dr Nikit Chandan submitted their report stating that the girl died due to septicemia (invasion of the bloodstream by virulent microorganisms from a focus of infection) and shock,” Vasco police said.
Two years after the death of the minor girl from Vasco, the Vasco police had filed a chargesheet in the court, against three doctors, including one from Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) Bambolim, for alleged medical negligence.
