Dr Shekhar Salkar said that there has been a tremendous awareness about the bad affects of tobacco consumption on health.
Goa state is in forefront as far as movement for eradication of tobacco is concerned, Dr Salkar said further.
He was addressing the students at ITI centre, Bicholim during a function organised by Bicholim mamlatdar office as a part of the commemoration of the World No Tobacco Day.
Bicholim mamlatdar Gurudas Dessai, joint mamlatdar Majik, and Bicholim vice-chairperson Ajeet Birje were present on the dais on the occasion.
Dr Salkar explained with the help of slides about how cancer is caused. He said that alcohol and tobacco consumption besides smoking can lead to cancer. He explained the gathering about various precautions to be taken to keep cancer at bay. The mamlatdar asked the youths to say no to tobacco and make efforts to create awareness in the society about cancer and precautions to be taken against it. Dr Salkar answered the queries raised by the students. Ishant Sawant proposed the vote of thanks. Pradeep Marathe compered the function.
