Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, on Wednesday, informed the state legislative assembly that the government has come out with an action plan to ensure that the water consumers in the state receive regular supply of potable water.

“The government will also provide funding to execute this plan,” he added.

Participating in discussion on a related question, during the Question Hour, Parrikar said that dysfunctional pumps, repeated power trips and other reasons result in the inefficient functioning of the water treatment plants around the state.

“We are creating solutions for such difficulties under the action plan,” he maintained.

Earlier, the Minister for Public Works Department, Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar, replying to a question from the Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes as regards scarcity of water in his constituency, said that there exists a 5 MLD capacity water treatment plant at Mokhard and another 10 MLD plant at Shristhal, in Canacona taluka, besides, a total of 12 pressure filter plants and one gravity filter plant provided in Canacona constituency under various rural water supply schemes.

“However,  an existing  400 mm diameter pipeline is unable to provide adequate raw water to these plants for treatment, and therefore, we are in the process of laying another 600 mm diameter pipeline costing 17 crore,” he informed, noting that once it is laid, the water situation in Canacona would improve.

It was also stated that treated water is being provided through tankers to the people of Canacona, during the months in the summer.

“In order to improve the water supply to the residents of Canacona constituency various works are proposed including replacement of rising main from Chapoli to water treatment plant at Mokhard and replacement of conveying main and distribution networks,” Dhavalikar said, adding that the repair and maintenance of filtration plants is being taken up
periodically.
