SALIGAO

The issues of illegal gaddas in fields and along the roadsides, football ground construction were discussed at the Saligao gram sabha which was held on Sunday at the village panchayat hall here.

The villagers asked the panchayat to look into the illegal gaddas that are operating in its jurisdiction. A villager pointed out that illegal gaddas are being erected in the fields by carrying out mudfilling.

Attorney of Saligao comunidade Austin De Gama told the gram sabha that there are 72 illegal structures in the village fields for which the comunidade has not given any NOC.

The villagers questioned the sarpanch whether the panchayat is taking any step against the illegal gaddas that are causing traffic problems on the road arising out of haphazard parking of vehicles near the gaddas.

Sarpanch Lafira Gomes read out the rules framed while issuing licences to the gaddas and said that the gaddas cannot be sublet, which is being done, and action will be taken as per law.

Further the villagers said that construction of a football ground is the need of the hour in the village. The attorney of the comunidade said that the comunidade had given NOC 5 times to previous MLAs for football ground construction; however, nothing further has happened in that regard.

The sarpanch said that talks as regards the football ground issue are going on with Saligao comunidade committee and the farmers, and that the local MLA has assured to construct the ground at the earliest.

The villagers also raised the issue of shopkeepers near the panchayat ghar alleging that they are defecating in the open.

They also raised concern over not being informed by the panchayat in a timely manner whenever there are new schemes available. They also raised the issue of one-month rent to be paid to the panchayat by those renting out rooms and sought to know whether it was mandatory.

The sarpanch said that all business establishments operating on lease have to give one-month rent. When the villagers pointed out that some do not have the lease agreement, the sarpanch said that all have to give the rent, even the people leasing out rooms come under this rule.

A villager raised the issue of trucks from different villages that pass through the village roads to the garbage plant and the stink that emanates from the garbage while being transported.

He said the concerned authority should take action against trucks carrying garbage without covering it.

Villagers further raised the issue of stray dog menace near Salmona spring and sought steps from the panchayat in curbing the menace.

The villagers also suggested widening of road with footpaths near Lourdes convent as the road is narrow.

Over parking issue near the Saligao circle, a villager asked the panchayat to start pay parking, but some villagers stated that the panchayat has no right to charge fees as it is a PWD property and instead write to the transport authority to make it a no-parking zone.

Another resident raised the issue of the service road along the Saligao-Parra road, which was constructed for the benefit of the farmers.

During the gram sabha, road safety, garbage and village development committees were formed for betterment of the village.
