ARPORA: Residents of Arpora-Baga are irked over the conversion of a house into a guest house and its soak pit is located along the road alignment. A D’Mello has lodged a complaint with the village panchayat in this regard. It is said that the house has been converted into a guest house without taking permission from the panchayat and its soak pit comes right on the road.
Villagers have also raised the issue of a broken electricity pole near the Arpora-Baga bridge that is posing danger to two-wheeler riders especially tourists.
Local panch Cleophas Fernandes said that he has intimated the village panchayat about the soak pit and the electric pole that has not yet been removed. He said that accidents have occurred as the pole is nearly invisible during the night and many tourists pass along the road.
Arpora sarpanch Mahima Korgaonkar said that a notice will be issued to the concerned house owner and the premises will be inspected to reveal if he had applied for renovation and running the guest house.
A letter will also be sent to the electricity department and the local MLA to look into the matter regarding the broken electricity pole, she added. She said that the problem of soak pit and electric pole has occurred as the road has been widened.
