MAPUSA : Due to recent hot mixing of road and non-desilting of drains at the government complex, goods worth Rs 2.5 lakh was destroyed after rain water entered the premises of Bardez Bazaar on Monday.
The incident took place at around 4.30 pm in the evening when a sudden downpour started entering the premises of Bardez bazaar cooperative society.
Recently the PWD had undertaken hot mixing of roads thereby increasing the height of the road. As the drains were not cleaned by the PWD, rain water started accumulating on the road which later entered the premises of Bardez bazaar.
On seeing the water entering the bazaar, the staff began removing the eatable items but despite many attempts it was not possible to contain the water from entering the society. Bags of wheat, sugar, salt and other items were soaked in water causing a loss of Rs 2.5 lakh.
When contacted chairman of Bardez bazaar cooperative society Jaiwant Naik said that “since the drains were not desilted the flow of water changed its direction and entered the bazaar”.
