PANAJI: Convenor of Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), and state Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Subhash Velingkar has quit the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s Birthday Celebration Committee. In a press release issued here on Tuesday, Velingkar said that he has submitted his resignation keeping in view the strong objections raised and expressed by the BBSM karyakartas in the state.
Velingkar claimed that the former chief minister Manohar Parrikar took a U-turn over the promises made to the BBSM workers during the last assembly elections. He further stated that after winning the assembly elections in 2012 and coming to power, Parrikar forgot to fulfill the promises given to BBSM and continued the grants to the English primary schools and strongly supported the move of former Kamat government.
The press note further states that the BBSM had restarted a movement on June 16 last year and nearly a year has passed by but Parsekar government has failed to take any cognisance of the demands raised by them.
Velingkar said that he quit the post to protest over the failure of the government to safeguard the interests and future of the local language.
