PANAJI: Aam Au rat Admi Against Gambling (AAAAG), on Saturday, held a protest in the city demanding a ban on the land and offshore casinos that are operational in Goa.
“We demand immediate removal of all casinos from the Mandovi River. No casino should operate on land or in the waters of Goa. AAAAG is opposed to the casinos being relocated in inland rivers or on shore,” said AAAAG, convenor adding that, “the government should pass a legislation to remove the amendment to the Goa Gambling Prevention Act that permitted casinos.”
Earlier this week a number of organisations under the banner of AAAAG during a meeting held in the city had collectively resolved to oppose the casinos and vowed to stop their operations. The meeting also condemned the decision of the government to permit another new casino in the river. “The conditions of the casino workers in offshore casinos should be inspected and action should be taken by the concerned authorities,” it was said.
