PANAJI: Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar stressed on the need for contributions of engineers in the planning of the state. Parsekar said that workshops or seminars of such structure are very important and helpful.
Goa being a small state all stakeholders should shoulder the responsibility of proper planning of this tiny state, the Chief Minister said while inaugurating a seminar on ‘The Goa (Regulation of Land Development and Building Construction) Act, 2008 and The Goa Land Development and Building Constructions Regulations 2010’, at Multipurpose Hall, Central Library in Panaji on Saturday.
The Institution of Engineers (India) Goa state centre in association with the Institute of Town Planners, India, Goa regional chapter and Town and Country Planning Department was the host for the daylong seminar.
The seminar was inaugurated by lighting the traditional lamp at the hands of the Chief Minister. Others present on the occasion were Dr S T Putturaju, Chief Town Planner, Gerard D’Mello, chairman of Institution of Engineers (India) Goa state centre, Snehalata Pednekar, chairman of ITPI, GRC, Yogesh Bhobe, secretary and Thomas D’ Costa, convenor.
Speaking further, Chief Minister said that the percentage of tourist arrival in the state exceeded by 30 per cent as compared to last couple of years. Now it is the responsibility of the engineers group to plan properly and guide the government, he added.
Chief Minister further said that tourists who visit Goa are mostly attracted to beaches in the state. We have many more tourist attractions apart from beaches, he said, adding, Goa is blessed with good heritage structures, hinterlands, waterfalls, mountains, lakes, hills etc. If we handle all this properly and more attention is given, it will be much more presentable, he said.
Parsekar said, as we all know that Goa is famous as a tourist destination, in the present scenario, Goa is emerging as a health care destination.
Dr S T Putturaju and Snehalata Pednekar also spoke on the occasion. Thomas D’Costa proposed the vote of thanks.
