MAPUSA
All roads in Mapusa are covered with potholes causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians. The most affected area is in ward number 20, the road stretch between the court junction towards old municipality and the road entering Tar junction into the town.
With the onslaught of the monsoon the roads in Mapusa have developed huge craters.
The most affected area is ward number 20 of Mapusa municipal council where JICA contractor Simplex had undertaken sewerage work. Due to massive digging for laying of pipes and construction of chambers the existing roads were converted into a kaccha road. Later, only patchwork was executed by the sewerage contractor.
With the start of the monsoon the road has developed huge craters and potholes.
The road between Tar junction, behind the church towards old Asilo hospital is in pathetic condition. With both the side drains opposite old Asilo blocked, it has resulted in water accumulation.
Similar is the situation on a road stretch between court junction towards old municipality resulting in traffic congestion.
Meanwhile the Mapusa Congress block along with the Mahila Congress president Mapusa Mitali Gadekar, Sandip Agariya, Keshav Barde and others on Monday gifted plant saplings to chairperson Sandip Falari and chief officer Clen Madeira drawing their attention to the bad state of roads.
Mapusa Congress block president Vijay Bhike said, “due to JICA sewerage project the condition of roads have worsened and have become a nightmare for all commuters”.
Chairperson Sandip Falari said, “The work undertaken by sewerage contractor is not satisfactory despite the Deputy Chief Minister’s instructions which have not been complied with”.
