The Minister for Sports Ramesh Tawadkar, on Monday, said that services of the 47 of the total 145 Sports Authority of Goa (SAG) daily wage workers have been regularised, and services of another 10 would soon be regularised, even though these employees were allegedly given jobs by the erstwhile government without following a proper procedure.
Tawadkar was reacting to the agitation held by the SAG employees in the capital city of the state for the last couple of days.
The Minister said that two women workers of the three agitating were given appointment letters at their home on Saturday.
“I just cannot fulfil all the demands instantly. There are procedures that need to be followed. The earlier government gave them the jobs without completing the process. When we came to power, it was brought to our notice that there was surplus staff with the SAG and as they were working on daily wages, it was decided to remove them. However, when we advertised 75 posts, 45 of these daily wage workers were accommodated. I even assured them that others would be adjusted in my other departments,” the Minister explained.
He further alleged that the earlier Congress government messed up the SAG.
“No rules were followed. And, we had to suffer for it. We know the plight of these workers, but we also have to see the legal aspect of it,” he added.
He further said that the issue has been simply politicised.
