15-day ultimatum to remove 5th casino anchored off Ribandar

PANAJI: Ribandar villagers including two MLAs, during a public meeting held at Ribandar, on Thursday, have given 15-day ultimatum to the Goa government to remove the 5th offshore casino anchored off the Ribandar coast.

The meeting was organised by Ribandar residents and was attended by Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte and Cumbharjua MLA Pandurang Madkaikar.

Sitting councillor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji Rupesh Halankar, who is also a member of the BJP and sarpanch of Chimbel panchayat Manisha Chopdekar were present along with activists Aires Rodrigues and Kashinath Shetye.

Members during the meeting passed a resolution, giving 15-days ultimatum to the government to remove the offshore casino anchored off the Ribandar coast, failing which will they will launch an agitation.

Concerns were raised on the livelihood of the fishermen from Ribandar.

According to the villagers, the anchored vessel (off shore casino) will affect the fishing activity in Ribandar.

Halankar during the meeting said that he will quit the BJP if the casino is not removed.
