PANAJI: Demanding an investigation into the bank accounts of the directors of companies awarded with the beach cleaning contract, the Porvorim MLA Rohan Khaunte, who is one of the complainants before the Goa Lokayukta, having maintained that the beach-cleaning project is “a multi-crore scam”, on Thursday, said that many ghost workers have been registered by the contractors involved in the beach cleaning work, and a number of such non-existent workers have been named after the government servants.
“The Goa Lokayukta and the department of vigilance, along with the provident fund authorities, should probe the details of each and every registered beach worker,” Khaunte demanded, stating that investigation should also be taken up as regards the bank accounts of the contractors, the director of tourism, and even the Minister for Tourism.
“This would expose many more irregularities in the beach cleaning work,” he mentioned.
The Porvorim MLA further said that the existing beach workers are paid way below the minimum wages, and rest of the amount siphoned off by the directors of the companies, which have been awarded the beach cleaning contract.
