The Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC), on Friday, resolved to set up automated parking facility in the open space at the government complex in Morod.
Under this multi-level parking facility, it would be possible to park more than 100 four wheelers in a ground plus one structure.
The engineering section of the municipality has proposed a multi-level parking facility at Morod. During the meeting, it was resolved to undertake the project, and request the revenue department for NOC.
Chairperson Sandip Falari said that “the council has already taken a resolution for taking up widening of a road, and after the work is executed, the compound wall will be built.
The MMC had issued show cause notices to the hoteliers, operating in the municipal market, for discharging waste water into the drains.
The hoteliers have now agreed to undertake construction of a mini STP plant, and have approached the council with a proposal to contribute towards the construction cost.
After a discussion, it was resolved to partly fund the construction of the mini STP plant, which will be used by hoteliers, who are operating in proximity.
Another major issue that was raised by the councillor Rajsingh Rane was about the attitude of labourers and supervisors.
Highlighting the issue, Rane said that “for the last two weeks, only one worker is reporting for the daily work in his ward,” and added that with just one worker it is not possible to take up the work.
He requested Falari to furnish the record of workers, and where they are assigned the duty for the last two weeks.
Participating in the discussion, the councillor Swapnil Shirodkar said that “the problem lies with the supervisors, who do not even receive calls when telephoned.”
Citing an example, the councillor Martin Carrasco said that “there are supervisors who work on their own terms. There was a labourer, who was absent for two days, and when he came back for work, the supervisor sent him back and marked him absent. If this is the manner of working, then the municipal work will get hampered.”
After hearing the grievances, Falari said that “this year, we found it difficult to get the labourers. The municipality used to employ 30 labourers during the monsoon, but this year we could get only 18 labourers, due to which managing the work has become very difficult.”
Commenting on supervisors’ issue, he said that “if we take action against any one of them, then no councillors should come asking for a relief.”
As expected, the council resolved to introduce spot billing system, taking administration to the doorstep of the Mapusa residents.
The council also resolved to install general packet radio service (GPRS) system on its vehicles so as to monitor their movement, and also to keep a check on the consumption of fuel.
The council also resolved to provide 12 spaces for the Mapusa-based tourist vehicles at the parking facility at inter-state bus stand.
