GCA fraud: investigation officer changed

The investigation officer probing the alleged multi-crore fraud in the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) has been changed.

The case was earlier probed by PSI Prasanna Bhagat however it has now been transferred to Police Inspector Shivram Vaigankar. A senior officer from the economic offences cell confirmed the developments claiming there are no specific reasons for changing the investigation officer.

Meanwhile in connection with the case GCA life member Prasad Phaterpekar statement’s have been recorded before a magistrate under 164 CrPC. According to police, Phaterpekar was a member of the managing committee from year 2002 to 2012 when the alleged incident of fraud is said to have occurred.

Earlier a former bank manager’s statement was also recorded before a magistrate under 164 CrPC and according to sources the manager had confirmed that GCA president Chetan Desai, secretary Vinod Phadke and treasurer Akbar Mulla had their signatures on the form to open the bank account in the name of GCA.

Apart from Rs 2.87 crore in question there is also allegation of siphoning off Rs 26 lakh from another bank account of GCA. Desai, Phadke and Mulla were arrested in connection with the case and are currently out on conditional bail.
