MARGAO: The administrators (past and present), appointed by the government, for the south zone comunidades were never serious about repairing the comunidade building, alleged some of the presidents of the comunidades of South Goa.
The managing committee members of various comunidades in South Goa, during its meeting in Margao on Thursday, further alleged that the administrators failed to take initiative in repairing the building.
Every monsoon, the building leaks.
“ Administrator is the trustee of the comunidades. Under his trusteeship, the repairs has to be done. We, seeing the condition of this building in the past, approached the then administrator, assuring him the help in carrying out the repair, but he refused to do it. The building, though belongs to the comunidade since it was earlier funded by Salcete comunidade and the land was provided by Margao comunidade, the concerned managing committee cannot directly take up the repairs,” explained, Margao and Aquem comunidade president Savio Corriea.
Celestina Noronha, an active member of the Comunidade of Margao questioned as to what the administrator and the staff are doing rest of the year.
“Why do they not follow it up,” he further questioned.
“We can provide them the financial help if they carry out the repairs in a transparent manner. We do not know why these administrators are not keen in resolving the issue,” said Corriea.
The managing committees pointed out that most of the income of the comunidades had to be spent on the salaries of the administrative staff including the iscrivaos.
Unsatisfied with the intervention of the government in the comunidade affairs, these members said, “Government is only the watchdog to monitor the functioning. It cannot dictate the terms.”
Several other issues were also discussed during the meeting.
