Kamakshi Forex fraud: HC seeks EOC reply on filing separate FIRs

PANAJI: The High Court of Bombay at Goa has asked the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) to find out the feasibility of filing separate FIRs and probing complaints of duped investors in the Kamakshi Forex fraud case.

“Why not file separate FIRs and probe complaints of duped investors,” the High Court questioned the EOC and asked it to file a reply.

As of now, several complaints have been lodged in connection with the case, and the amount involved is said to be in crores. The accused allegedly hatched a criminal conspiracy and collected deposits in the form of foreign currency and Indian currency at Kamakshi Forex, Margao.

The deposits were towards investment for a period of one month to five years over the promise of high monetary returns. However, the accused allegedly misappropriated the money of several depositors.

A petitioner had approached the court stating that the “Economic Offences Cell has refused to register his FIR saying that they have less staff.” The petitioner had also pleaded that “if EOC is not capable of handling this case, then the case should be transferred to any other agency.”

The court has told a government advocate that there needs to be a proper investigation into the multicrore scam.

Another petitioner had pleaded that the EOC should explain why they have not approached higher court for cancellation of bail of Nilesh Raikar. The court has directed the EOC to file reply within a week.
