Casinos helped balance economy during ‘severe crisis’ after mining ban: CM

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that casinos have helped the state to balance the economy during the severe economic crisis that prevailed soon after the total ban was imposed on mining.
Parsekar further said that the casinos, which generate nearly Rs 200 crore per annum, have become major revenue earners for the state.
The Chief Minister was speaking to media on the sidelines of a felicitation function of meritorious 95 SSC, 26 HSSC (catering and restaurant management) students and 23 teachers of Keshav Smruti High School and Higher Secondary School, Alto-Dabolim, on Saturday.
The school has secured 100 per cent result in both SSC and HSSC examinations held recently.
The function was organised by Shree Damodar Kalavaibhav Education Society in association with teachers, management and PTA of Keshav Smruti High School and Keshav Smruti Higher Secondary School.
The function was attended by Dabolim MLA Mauvin Godinho, ex-professor of Mumbai and Belgaum University K P Rao, chairman of Shree Damodar Kalavaibhav Education Society and Keshav Smruti High School and HSSC Pandurang Korgaonkar, director of Goa Tourism and Development Corporation Jayant Jadhav, Deputy sarpanch of Chicalim Kamlaprasad Yadav, panch member Anita Vaz, headmistress Sushma Korgaonkar, Baburao Dhond, Shantaram Pagi, Sukorina Rodrigues and others.
Godinho, while speaking on the occasion, urged the Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar to open ‘Skill Development Branch’ at Keshav Smruti High School, which would benefit the students coming from the poor families.
He recalled that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has a dream to make India skilled by introducing skill development programmes.
“It is therefore necessary to open a skill development branch at Keshav Smruti High School, which would help hundreds of youths to select various vocations,” he said.
On the occasion, ex-professor of Mumbai and Belgaum University Rao felicitated the Chief Minister by presenting him with a shawl and srifal, while Dabolim MLA Godinho presented him with a scroll of honour.
Earlier, the function was inaugurated by lighting a traditional lamp at the hands of Parsekar.
The function was compered by Sachin Shirodkar, Yugali Naik and Namita Esunuri.
The acting principal of Keshav Smruti Higher Secondary School Shankar Gaonkar proposed the vote of thanks.
