Raising concern over rise in boutique hotels in Moira, the village gram sabha on Sunday asked the panchayat to check if such residential complexes, that are being used for commercial activities, have valid permission and, if not, initiate action as per law.
At the gram sabha, the matter regarding C form was discussed as despite passing a resolution no details have been made available to the villagers Last time, it was resolved that panch members would conduct a survey and submit detailed reports but in vain.
Hence, it was resolved to approach Mapusa police and get all the data from them and verify the same.
A resident Vigilia de Sa said that “the people who are staying on rent can still be identified but what about those who are coming on weekends in the boutique hotels,” adding, “We fear such places might be used for prostitution and drug activities.”
She sought to know from the sarpanch “whether any permission was given to these residential houses for commercial use.”
Another villager Blandino Fernandes pointed out that “there are many boutique hotels in villages which can be booked online and claim to provide all services.”
Replying to queries, sarpanch Santosh Chari informed the gram sabha that “he was not aware of any such permission but he will have to cross check the panchayat records.”
Also a resolution was passed to have underground cabling of 11 KV lines from sub-station to 22 transformers which are spread across the village. The resolution will be forwarded to chief engineer of electricity department.
The gram sabha also resolved to ask PWD road section to rectify the rumblers near St Xavier’s High School and conduct a survey of the Moira bridge as it has developed holes.
Another issue raised was about the noise pollution during recent San joao party which was held at the village sports club. The villagers urged the panchayat to ask the club not to play music beyond 10 p.m.
A resident Julia D’Souza raised the issue of littering of the ground during any tournament. She said the club should make all provisions before holding such activities on the ground.
Sarpanch Chari informed the gram sabha that soon the garbage treatment unit would be ready as the panchayat is expecting to get an amount of Rs 10 lakh sanctioned in the coming week and later panchayat will put Rs 8 lakhs and BDO would give them permission to start the unit work”.
He assured that “before the next gram sabha, the treatment unit would be ready.”
Panchayat secretary Francis Fernandes and observer Amit Prabhu were present for the gram sabha.
