Nigerian held with drugs worth Rs 3.60 lakh at Mapusa

MAPUSA : In a major breakthrough Mapusa police on Monday early morning nabbed a Nigerian national who was in illegal possession of drugs worth Rs 3.60 lakh. The accused was produced before Mapusa JMFC and was sent to four day police custody.  

According to police, acting on information from reliable sources, a trap was laid by police inspector Tushar Lotlikar along with PSI Vijay Chodankar, PSI Eldio  Fernandes, constables  Sushant Chopdekar, Irshad Watangi,  Rupesh Korgaonkar, Franky Vaz, Alivito De Mello, Shindesh Sawant and Rama Matonkar.

The police said that at Dangui colony, a Nigerian national John Onyebuchi (33) residing at Hyderabad was supposed to visit the area to deliver drugs. On Monday early morning between 12.45 am to 3.30 am the Nigerian came on an Activa scooter and he was found to be in illegal possession of drugs i.e. ganja which was weighting 6 kg and the market value is around Rs 3.60 lakh. Mapusa police arrested him under NDPS act and attached the drugs besides a scooter, travel bag, wallet containing cash of Rs 680, 200 Naira of Central Bank of Nigeria, a receipt and a mobile handset.

Police informed that the accused was residing at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh and is a student with an architecture college. Sources informed that he had arrived in the state on Sunday.

Mapusa police registered the offence under section 20(B) (ii) (B) of NDPS Act  and further investigation is in progress.
