Alert grandmother saves 15-day-old infant in Siolim tree fall

MAPUSA : A family along with a 15-day-old infant escaped unhurt when a huge tree came crashing down on a house at Siolim Sodiem. The loss is estimated to be around Rs 3 lakh.

According to information available on Monday due to gusty winds a huge tree got uprooted and fell on the roof of Madhavi Torsakar.

When the tree came down crashing, the grandmother rushed towards the bed and pulled the infant to safety.

The fire and emergency service were informed who rushed to the site and cleared the debris.

The sarpanch of Siolim-Sodiem village panchayat Nilesh Vaingankar said that he along with his deputy, panchayat secretary and Talathi inspected the house and conducted the panchanama.

Sources informed that in September 2014 Madhavi had a lucky escape when lightning struck her house. The lightning had damaged her TV, ceiling fans, iron, grinder, washing machine, refrigerator, electrical wiring, etc.

Referring to the incident the sarpanch said that “ in 2014 he and panchayat Talathi had prepared a report of the incident and had submitted it to the mamlatdar for compensation but till date no compensation is paid to the woman who belongs to a poor family”.
