PANAJI: Stating that a teacher working in government-aided school on probation/ permanent basis is not allowed to work as a lecturer on contract basis/ lecture basis in Goa University or colleges affiliated to this university, if she is on maternity leave from any aided school, Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar said that action would be initiated against such teacher by the appointing authority-cum-disciplinary authority, that is the chairman of school managing committee of the school, as per the rules of the Goa School Education Act and Rules, 1984.
Parsekar, who also holds the Education portfolio, replying to a related question from the Cuncolim MLA Rajan Naik, during the Question Hour said that however, a person working on lecture basis in government-aided school, when on maternity leave, can work elsewhere, including in Goa University or its affiliated colleges on lecture basis.
The Chief Minister also said that the school managements cannot deny maternity leave to any teacher due for delivery, as the government has not only made provision for her full salary paid maternity leave, but also made a provision for substitute teacher as well as salary of this teacher. “In fact, the government pays two salaries for one post,” he added, assuring that he would ask the department of education to give necessary directions to the schools managements, who are found to be denying maternity leave to their teachers.
