New data centre to be ready in three months

Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar, on Wednesday, informed the state legislative assembly that the setting up of the new state data centre would be ready in next three months at the new Information Technology Hub, at Altinho.
Admitting that all e-governance services offered under the e-district project are yet to be rolled out, he informed that 29 such e-governance services, including issuance of income certificates, domicile certificates, residence certificates, divergence certificates, caste/ community certificates, Matriz certificates, Form I & XIV (Record of Right), and so on, have been presently made available to the public.
The Chief Minister, replying to a related question from the Sanguem MLA, Subhash Phaldesai, further said that as far as the works undertaken by the Info Tech Corporation of Goa Limited are concerned, the video conferencing facility has been set up in 15 government offices such as North and South Goa Collectorate offices, mamlatdar offices at Ponda, Dharbandora, Bicholim, Valpoi, Mapusa, Pernem, Quepem, Vasco, Sanguem, and Canacona, besides the Secretariat, department of information technology and the office of the Goa State Election Commission.
Sanguem MLA maintained that the e-governance services presently provided to the public are minor services, and major ones in fields namely health and education must be introduced soon, including storing medical history of patients from the primary health centre-level onwards, and storing the educational syllabus in the form of e-content. He also requested the Chief Minister to provide Wi-Fi facility to schools, especially the higher secondary schools.
The Chief Minister maintained that the government will shoulder an estimated expenditure of Rs 3 crore on the new state data centre. “The present state data centre is located in a rented premises and the government has to spend monthly rent of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 8 lakh on it,” he added.
It was also informed that if possible the government would accommodate the Goa Broad Band Network (GBBN) operation centre, at the IT Hub.
