Sancoale sarpanch seeks more funds for panchayat

VASCO: The Sancoale Village Panchayat sarpanch Ramakant Borkar has demanded that the state government releases more funds to the panchayat body which is collected in the form of octroi tax in order to take up developmental projects within the panchayat jurisdiction.

Borkar was addressing the media on Tuesday morning after launching several developmental works in Sancoale Panchayat jurisdiction, amounting to Rs 20 lakh along with panch members Narayan Naik, Govind Lamani, Rangappa Kamal, former sarpanch Bhojraj Naik and others.

The sarpanch disclosed that “as the state government is collecting octroi tax from petroleum companies and even from industries operating at Sancoale Industrial Estate, the revenue collection from the village panchayat has dropped considerably”.

“The Sancoale panchayat is therefore demanding that the state government allocates more funds from octroi tax which would benefit the village panchayat to take up more developmental works and bigger projects like construction of panchayat ghar, the stalled Kala Bhavan project and many more benefitting people at large”, added Borkar. He disclosed that the Sancoale panchayat will soon commence the construction work on various developmental projects in all the eleven wards which is estimated to cost of Rs 1 crore.

Meanwhile, Borkar launched the construction work of a retaining wall in the vicinity of Shree Sateri Temple at Sindolim, installation of pavers in the open premises at Lamani Chawl at Zuarinagar and also at Bharat Nagar in MES College vicinity, total estimated to cost Rs 20 lakh.
