Terrorism and garbage are the two major problems that are being faced today, said Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza, and added that a solution to these problems is possible if we all work in unison.
The Deputy Chief Minister was addressing a gathering after hoisting the National Flag at the government complex, Mapusa, on the occasion of 70th Independence Day.
D’Souza inspected the guard of honour presented by personnel of Mapusa police station, NCC students including army wing and naval wing, and scouts and guides.
Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo, Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, Deputy Collector of Bardez Narayan Gad, chairperson of MMC Sandip Falari, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahesh Gaonkar, police inspector Tushar Lotlikar, BDO, Mapusa councillors, freedom fighters and other eminent personalities were present on the occasion.
A cultural programme was also organised wherein students of Mapusa schools performed.
Further addressing the gathering, Deputy Chief Minister said that “our struggle is going on to protect our borders, and will not end, hence we all need to be alert and be like soldiers to fight against all anti-national elements, It is everyone’s fight and we all can do it.”
He further said that “in Mapusa, we have many houses which are given on rent. As a citizen, it is our duty to registrar the renting with the police department through C form.”
“If we want to undertake development works, then there are people who object to it, and if we don’t do it then the people face problems. Hence we have to take people into confidence. Our government has been taking up various projects in all the sectors for benefit of the public and not for the benefit of any specific community, ”he concluded.
