Despite the ban on bull-trawling, two trawlers were caught bull-trawling off Colva coast.
The two trawlers were caught late on Friday night carrying out bull trawling illegally. While the trawlers were seized, the Cutbona boat owners called an emergency meeting to take stock of the situation. Sending a strong message across, the members decided that any such activity of illegal bull-trawling will be treated seriously.
Confirming the development, the president of the Cutbona boat owners co-operative society union, Savio D’Silva said, “We called an emergency meeting in view of the boats caught bull-trawling. The members have decided that in future if trawlers are caught bull- trawling hefty fines will be imposed”.
He said on the present scenario the defaulter was let off as it was his first mistake, however, D’Silva said that the trawler owner will have to give an undertaking to the union that he would not resort to bull-trawling in the future and also tender a written apology.
