MARGAO: Nearly 40 children who were either absconding or missing have been rescued by Railway Police Force (RPF) besides making arrest of 27 bootleggers in the first eight months of the current year, chief security commissioner of Railway Police Force (RPF) A N Sinha informed on Friday.
Addressing the mediapersons in Margao, Sinha said, “In first eight months of this year we rescued 40 children as compared to 31 who were rescued in 2015. We also managed to arrest 27 bootleggers in the corresponding period while in 2015, only 12 bootleggers were arrested,” he said adding that the RPF has taken all efforts to improve the security of the passengers at the stations.
Sinha said that 17 new CCTVs out of proposed 272 have been installed at the Margao station. “Union Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu has inaugurated the central control room for CCTVs and video surveillance system at 17 spots at Margao station. The system is on lease basis and the contractor will be responsible for the maintenance for a period of five years,’’ he added.
He said that the Raising Day that is celebrated every year on September 20 to commemorate the status of Armed Forces given to the force through an Act was celebrated in Goa too. He further informed that under the railway act, as many as 522 cases were booked in last eight months and 502 were fined for the ticket-less travel.
