VASCO: Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida held an emergency meeting of the officials of various government offices housed in the Mormugao Municipality building, to begin the process of vacating the building for carrying out its repair and renovation.

There are nearly 12 state and central government offices in the MMC building, including the offices of deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate Mormugao, Mormugao mamlatdar, excise department, civil supplies, sub-treasury, communidade, health, BSNL, post besides Janata Vachanalaya, a canteen, reading section and most importantly the MMC-run Mormugao Municipal High School.

There are also municipal offices located on the first floor, which include offices of registration of birth and deaths, house tax recovery, technical section, chairperson, deputy chairperson and chief officer.

The officers and representatives of various government offices raised serious concern over the non-availability of premises to shift the offices.  There was suggestion from the officers that they would continue operating from their existing offices without causing any inconvenience or posing hurdle for the renovation work.

Almeida assured the officials to provide his full support in finding suitable premises for their offices.

He said that the renovation work would start from November first week and would be completed by May 2017.  “The estimated cost of the repair and renovation work of the MMC building is around Rs 8 crore”, informed Almeida, adding the work will be tendered within the next one month.
