SALVADOR DO MUNDO: A builder in Salvador do Mundo has illegally carried out hill cutting using a JCB to construct a 10 meter road near the Hindu crematorium at Quitela waddo in survey no 264 belonging to the Serula communidade.

The Salvador do Mundo sarpanch Sandeep Salgaonkar along with villagers and panch members carried out an inspection on Monday of the site.

It may be recalled that the villagers are up in arms that their orchard land might go to private forests after NGT has directed the forest department to demarcate the area.

According to sources the TCP has given permission on June 10, 2016 to the owner to construct a compound wall in survey no 265 which happens to be a land locked property.  However the conservator of forests has given a letter to the TCP dated March 27, 2015 stating that there is a ban on civil construction in private forest area and was signed by the deputy conservator of forest north Goa M V Karkhanis. This process was done under the guidelines of the Supreme Court that no construction should be carried out in private forests, which the TCP has overruled.

The villagers of Salvador do Mundo are worried as to how the TCP could make such a blunder in overruling the directives of the Supreme Court.

Speaking to media sarpanch Salgaonkar said that no permission has been given to the builder to carry out work in the forest land.

Panch Rajesh Sawaikar representing Quitela wadda said that this is a clear violation of rules by carrying out the work of illegal cutting hill,  trees and uprooting of huge boulders.
