VASCO: The assistant engineer PWD (water section) Vishwambhar Bhende said that there is no scarcity of water during the summer months in Mormugao taluka. He opined that the water supply in Mormugao taluka has improved to a great extent in the last three to four years.
Assistant engineer Bhende disclosed that the PWD authorities are making an all out effort to augment water supply to entire Mormugao taluka. He said that there is adequate number of overhead tanks and some tanks are in the final stage of completion.
He said that the problem of water in the hilly terrain of Headland-Sada has almost been resolved with the construction of 5000 cubic meter ground level water tank, construction of 650 cubic meter overhead tank and a newly proposed 650 cubic meter overhead tank. He also said that in Mangor-Hill, the PWD has constructed 1,000 cubic meter overhead tank which will the resolve water woes of the people. Bhende said, “The JICA water pipeline will be commissioned in Mormugao taluka very shortly in August or September with the completion of laying pipelines near NSD at Alto-Dabolim, and from Baina to Headland-Sada”. He disclosed that apart from receiving 65 to 68 MLD of water, Mormugao taluka will also receive additional water supply from the JICA project which will have a capacity of supplying additional 100 MLD of water.
