MAPUSA: Mapusa Municipal Council has decided to implement its decision of shifting all fire cracker stalls located in the main market to inter-state bus stand for Diwali.
Following this, the chief officer of the council Clen Madeira has asked the Mapusa traffic cell to shift inter-state buses to the proposed new bus stand.
The shifting of the fire cracker stalls from the market was first proposed during the Ganesh festival preparation meeting, which was held at deputy collector’s office, wherein station fire officer had recommended to relocate fire crackers stalls from the market to avoid any untoward incident.
Later, the deputy collector, Bardez had asked the MMC to relocate fire cracker stalls and also matoli vendors, but due to the lack of time, the council could not do the relocation.
Later in September, the council held its ordinary meeting wherein it was resolved to shift inter-state buses to proposed new bus stand for a period of 15 days for Ganesh festival, commencing from four days before the festival, to shift buses for eight days for Diwali, commencing four days before the festival and to shift buses for Christmas, for a period 14 days from December 20 up to January 2, and to accommodate fire crackers stalls at the vacant inter-state bus stand.
In this regard, the chief officer has written a letter to the Mapusa traffic cell, and a copy has been sent to assistant director of transport, informing them about the council decision.
When contacted, Madeira informed that “we will not allow any fire cracker stalls in the market area at all. The temporary stalls will be erected opposite taxi stand.”
