MARGAO: The district administration, on Monday, pulled up the tourism department for not maintaining the toilets at the Margao bus stand and old bus stand while giving the Margao Municipal Council thumbs up for moving towards making the commercial capital open defecation-free.
During the review meeting, the district administration took serious cognizance of the poor condition of the toilet blocks at the bus stands, which were constructed by the tourism department but not being maintained.
There are several complaints about the same from the commuters.
Further, the administration gave the Margao Municipal Council a pat on back for initiating the process to improve the existing toilets and also for initiating the process to construct new toilets in places where there is no toilet facility.
Speaking to reporters, the Deputy Collector Ajit Panchwadkar said the Margao Municipal Council is indeed doing a good job to achieve the open defecation-free Margao.
Panchwadkar also said that the Sulabh Souchalaya was also pulled up over complaints of overcharging, and warned that action would be initiated against it.
