Bardez mamlatdar Dasharath Gawas has asked all government offices, housed in the government complex at Morod, to direct their staff to utilise the space on the rear side of the complex for parking. On Tuesday, a cleanliness drive was conducted at the government complex.
The government complex at Mapusa, which is a ground plus three-floor building, houses more than ten government offices which include the office of the additional collector, deputy collector and mamlatdar of Bardez taluka, block development office, civil supplies, commercial tax office, PWD building section, electrical section and office of executive engineer of PWD roads, office of registrar of cooperative societies, office of land survey and others. This complex caters to a vast population of Bardez and is lying in a pathetic state with no repair works carried out.
The worst-affected is the back area of the building where septic tanks are overflowing, huge plants have grown and toilet pipes are broken. It may be recalled that in March this daily had carried a report on the pathetic state of the building, but till date nothing has happened. PWD building section had prepared an estimate of Rs 6 lakh and also tendered the work, however the expenditure approval was not given.
On Monday afternoon, a sudden visit by Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza prompted the concerned in holding a cleanliness drive, which was undertaken on Tuesday.
When contacted, D’Souza said that for the last four months people have been trying to bring to the notice of the authorities about the condition of the building.
D’Souza said that “there are pavers installed on the rear side of the building so that vehicles can be parked, but no one is parking there.”
Meanwhile, Bardez mamlatdar Gawas said that “I have been assured by chief engineer of PWD that expenditure approval will be given by this week.”
