Demonetisation will affect BJP’s chances in polls: Sudin

PANAJI: The Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party  has stated that the November 8 decision of the Union government to demonetise the Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes would definitely have an impact on the election prospects of the Bharatiya Janata Party  during the forthcoming state assembly polls.

MGP is a coalition partner of the BJP in the state government, and has given indication that it would continue with this partnership for the 2017 Goa assembly elections.

Coming out with this observation, senior MGP leader  and  Minister for Public Works Ramakrishna ‘Sudin’ Dhavalikar told ‘The Navhind Times’ on Thursday that not only the BJP, but also other political parties contesting the polls would have to bear the aftereffects of the demonetisation, during the particular election.

“The impact would be sure and certain,” he noted.

Dhavalikar said  the parliamentary committee of the MGP for the 2017 state assembly election would be constituted during the first or second week of December 2016, to shortlist the electoral constituencies in which the MGP would like to contest the state assembly polls, as well as for finalising the party’s candidates.

“Once this is done, we would start our interactions with the BJP leaders, as regards seat sharing for the particular polls,” he maintained, observing that however, the finalisation of the alliance would gather speed, once the election notification is issued by the Election Commission of India.

Incidentally, while sharing his views on the MGP-BJP alliance, Dhavalikar had recently stated that the MGP is firm on its decision to contest in the Bicholim and Dabolim constituencies. He had also revealed that the MGP has briefed the BJP about its demand for 14 constituencies out of the total 40 constituencies.

The PWD Minister had also maintained that a number of major state projects have been funded by the Centre, with the funding worth thousands of crores rupees, and if they are to be completed, then the MGP-BJP government needs to return to power in Goa.
