The Siolim-Marna gram sabha discussed various issues pertaining to the village such as upgradation of panchayat library, stray cattle and mobile carts occupying the widened road.
The issue of upgradation of the panchayat library was brought before the gram sabha of Siolim-Marna which was held on Sunday by social activist Jeffrey D’Souza. The matter was also put before the gram sabha during the last meeting but no action has been taken.
The panchayat library is currently managed by a single person and is under staffed.
After hearing the matter the sarpanch Alba Sequeira assured the gram sabha that the panchayat will write to the concerned department i.e. central library and will try to get the library upgraded.
Later the issue of cattle menace was raised at the meeting. The villagers claimed that despite having a cattle pound, stray cattle are seen on the roads, due to which accidents are caused and traffic congestion is witnessed.
It was also brought to the notice of the sarpanch that the cattle pound is managed by an NGO who are falling short of funds to manage the pound. Hence some financial assistance must be provided to improve the service.
The gram sabha resolved to write to the animal husbandry department to provide financial assistance if there is any provision or else to any NGO who could manage the cattle pound.
Amrut Agarwadekar brought to the notice of the sarpanch that roads are widened in the village for betterment of motorists and not for mobile carts. He said that people who are occupying the roadsides are doing brisk business and in the process vehicles stop and park near the roadside creating traffic congestion. He demanded necessary action to be taken by the village panchayat.
