VASCO
The former deputy chairperson of Mormugao municipal council and NGO Savera Trust Tara Kerkar has demanded immediate probe into the missing close circuit television (CCTV) cameras which were installed at several locations in and around Vasco through the Member of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Scheme five years ago.
Addressing a press conference in Vasco on Wednesday along with Savera Trust members Andrea Pereira and Laxmi Belgaukar, Kerkar in a complaint to the Vasco police station demanded immediate probe into the missing CCTV cameras. She disclosed that out of a total of 68 CCTV cameras, nearly 56 CCTV cameras have gone missing without the knowledge of concerned authorities. She raised the possibilities of theft by unknown persons.
When contacted the Vasco traffic cell PI Sudesh Narvekar, ruled out the possibilities of theft. Narvekar was of the opinion that the CCTV cameras which were non functional in various towns including Vasco could have been removed for repair works by the authorities concerned.
He disclosed that the district collector South has fixed an inspection of all CCTV cameras installed in Vasco, Quepem, Sanguem and others in the presence of deputy superintendent of police (traffic), concerned chief officers, traffic cell police inspector, information and technology representatives and others on December 13.
