CALANGUTE
Calangute MLA Michael Lobo said that despite some hiccups the BJP-MGP alliance will continue in the interest of Goans and development of the state. He said after four years and nine months of alliance, the MGP cannot ditch BJP and sever its ties.
Speaking at a press conference here, he said, BJP, despite getting a majority, stood by its word and gave the plump portfolio of PWD to the alliance partner leader and because of this Goa witnessed so much development.
He felt that the PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, being a seasoned politician, will not make a foolish move more so when the country has BJP-led government.
He alleged that there are three to four leaders in the MGP, who are raking up the language issue with the support of a newly-formed party in Goa.
He stressed that the MGP should continue the alliance for 2017-2022 and that the issue of chief minister has no meaning as when the same people accepted Parsekar for two-and-a-half-years then why are they making an issue now.
Speaking about development, he said there are many major projects which are going on including the third Mandovi bridge, Mopa airport and six-lane national highway which need to be completed and for this the BJP has to be brought to power again.
He said that the final call on alliance and seat-sharing will be taken by Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, Sudin Dhavalikar and Nitin Gadkari.
He said the people want the alliance to continue as both parties have done a good work and carried out development of Goa.
He, however, said that if the MGP thinks that it can go it alone, the BJP will not succumb to pressure as it is a national party and has the will to contest alone and become the largest single party in the upcoming assembly election.
