Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar has stated that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government will rehabilitate all slum dwellers in Goa, including Birla and Zuarinagar, through a proper housing scheme.
He was speaking to media on the sidelines of a public meeting, organised by Cortalim BJP mandal at Thana-Cortalim, as part of campaigning for Cortalim BJP candidate Alina Saldanha.
Parrikar assured of taking care of all slum-dwellers in Goa by allocating them ownership.
He said the BJP had planned to rehabilitate the Zuarinagar and Birla slum dwellers, but it did not materialise due to several obstacles. The closure of mining in the state was a major problem as it impacted the financial position of the state.
“But, since the BJP government is ruling at the Centre, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has several plans which includes providing housing facilities to all,” added Parrikar.
He maintained that the union budget presented on February 1 has laid stress on housing. “I have already discussed with the concerned union minister about rehabilitation of slums in Goa in which funding will be borne equally by the central government and state government. We want to assure that dwellers at Zuarinagar slums along with other slums in Goa will be allotted ownership within the next three years,” informed Parrikar.
Earlier Parrikar, addressing a public meeting, announced that the incumbent MLA of Cortalim will be given preference when it comes to allocating ministerial berth. BJP candidate Saldanha said that she has worked tirelessly to fulfill the aspirations of the people and would continue to do so.
Meanwhile, Parrikar on Tuesday promised to erase unemployment from the state if BJP is voted back to power.
Addressing the people at Aquem, on Tuesday late evening, he urged the people of Margao to vote for Margao candidate Sharmad Raiturkar. Parrikar said “We will resolve the issue of unemployment if the party comes to power again in Goa. The BJP government has worked towards providing employment to Goans.”
Raiturkar accused the Margao MLA of allegedly neglecting problems of the people in Margao.
Meanwhile, Raiturkar’s meeting at Monte Hill evoked good response. The residents, including Maulana Balbatti, have assured support to the BJP candidate.
