Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Chandrakant ‘Babu’ Kavlekar Friday alleged that former Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane leaked information of the CLP meeting and strategy to the opposition camp, which ultimately resulted in the BJP forming government in the state.
“I had a doubt when I saw Vishwajit recording the conversation of CLP members and the Goa Governor at the Raj Bhavan when we went to the Governor to stake claim. He was walking in and out of the CLP meeting in the Congress House quite frequently and was constantly on phone. He has proved me right,” said Kavlekar.
He said that Vishwajit has a close relationship with leaders from the opposition camp to whom he leaked information about the Independent MLAs, who were on the Congress party side. “This helped the opposition to target them and pull them away from the Congress party,” he said.
“Vishwajit should have given a second thought before backstabbing Congress party. By doing this, he has tarnished the name of his father Pratapsing Rane, who is admired, loved and respected all over the country,” said Kavlekar.
He said that Vishwajit’s resignation is a blessing in disguise, as now the Congress party does not have any threat of information leaking to the opposition camp. He said that the Congress party will field its strong candidate against Vishwajit for the by-election in Valpoi constituency.
Kavlekar said that BJP cannot breathe without power and it can go to any extent to pull and push MLAs on its side. Commenting on his role in the Goa legislative assembly, Kavlekar said that what happened after 2012 election will not be repeated. He said that all Congress MLAs will stand united against the government in the state assembly. “We will not allow the BJP-led government to take any decision which is against the interests of the people,” he said.
