Ucassaim Paliem Punola panchayat, during the gram sabha on Sunday, proposed to revise the house tax and sought views of the villagers on it.
The gram sabha was informed that since 2002 there has been no revision in the house tax structure, and, therefore, there is a need to increase the tax as it is one of the sources of revenue to the panchayat.
It was also informed that currently panchayat is collecting the house tax of Rs 25 and Rs 50, which is meagre. In this view, it was proposed to hike the house tax from Rs 25 to Rs 150, and Rs 50 to Rs 200.
Addressing the gram sabha, sarpanch George D’Souza said that the proposal of hiking the house tax will be kept open for the villagers and a month’s time will be given to them to provide their views on it.
Secretary Clifton Azavedo informed the gram sabha that recently Aldona MLA Glen Ticlo held a meeting with all the panchayat secretaries of his constituency and told them that as the Saligao garbage treatment plant would be commissioned soon, the panchayat can start collecting dry garbage from all the households and the same can be sent to the Saligao plant for treatment.
The gram sabha was also informed that a vehicle will move in the panchayat area to collect segregated dry waste only.
During the sabha, the issue of Aadhar card was also raised. It was pointed that for availing of all government schemes Aadhar card is required and, therefore, it was resolved that the panchayat should undertake a special drive in its jurisdiction to enroll those villagers who do not have the card.
Referring to a letter from Foods and Drugs Administration (FDA), sarpanch George informed that all the hotels and self-help groups dealing in eatables should apply for licence with the FDA.
As per the letter, action will initiated against those who do not have a valid licence.
