Rains round the corner, but nullahs not yet desilted: Nerul villagers

NT NETWORK

NERUL
Nerul gram sabha on Sunday expressed concern over the issue of nullahs, highlighting that the nullahs were yet to be de-silted despite rains being round the corner.
They said the nullahs are choked and need to be cleared of muck immediately, further pointing that if it was not done it would lead to outbreak of diseases during the monsoon.
Sarpanch Shashikala Govekar, replying on the issue, said that the work has been kept pending as some people are not willing to provide NOCs which is mandatory for the WRD to go ahead with the work.
Further, a villager highlighted the need for a proper fish market in the village. It was pointed that a site was identified for the same and that a resolution was also submitted by the panchayat to the local MLA in that regard to follow up with the PWD.
On development front, the villagers pointed that the village has seen no major development, however, they said, illegal constructions were going on unabatedly.
They also questioned the sarpanch about the suggestion given during the last gram sabha regarding the replacement of 60 mm diameter water pipes with 80 mm diameter pipes.
The sarpanch informed the villagers that the panchayat has written to the PWD about it and that things are in progress.
The villagers also raised the issue of trees not being pruned before the rains.
The sarpanch informed that the branches will be cut by the electricity department.
A villager raised the issue of football ground, saying that for many years the ground has not been developed. “Why the football ground is neglected?”he asked.
The sarpanch said that the local MLA has assured the panchayat that the government will develop the ground and the file pertaining to it has already been cleared by the sports department.
Another villager asked as to why the panchayat members including the sarpanch arrive for the gram sabha late when the timing is 10 a.m., and added that the villages come on time but the panchayat members arrive late.
The sarpanch should apologise to the villagers for such a misconduct, he added.
