A 15 MLD water treatment plant that is going to come up at Porvorim will resolve the problem of water shortage in the areas of Reis Magos and Nerul said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, and added that solving that problem will be amongst his priorities.
Parrikar spoke to the Reis Magos and Nerul residents when he had come meet the family of Saligao MLA at his residence.
The Chief Minister enquired with PWD engineers, who had come to meet him at the residence of the Saligao MLA, about the status of the 15 MLD water treatment plant, which is to be built at Porvorim to solve the water problem being faced in Porvorim and Reis Magos.
The CM instructed the PWD officials to forward the file, stating that solving the water problem would be amongst his priorities.
Saligao MLA and Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar said that solving the water problem will be his first priority, and added that the people are suffering for a long time now due to the water problem.
He said that one of his promises to the people of the area was to resolve the water problem, and added that Nerul being at the ‘tail end,’ water pressure there is less and water is being released every alternate day.
The other issue that was raised by the villagers and the MLA was that of the bypass road, which is the need of the hour, as Verem market is frequently witnessing traffic congestion.
There was a proposal to construct a ‘tunnel’ at Bamboo Motels and Parrikar, who was then Chief Minister had inspected the site. Parrikar said that construction of the tunnel will not be possible due to cost factor, but another alternative will have to be looked at.
Salgaonkar said that a new alignment has been suggested to the Chief Minister that is from Gautam Hotel, moving down the slope, connecting the Pilerne road near the panchayat ghar and running to industrial estate, connecting Saligao.
Speaking further, he said that the Chief Minister has promised him that land will be acquired to construct a football ground for Saligao, which is long pending demand of the villagers.
