PANAJI: Adpai Yuvak Sangh, Ponda has been adjudged as the top prize winner in the tableaux – Chitrarath – category in the Panaji Shigmotsav parade, held in the city on Saturday. The tableaux of Shree Gajanan Yuvak Mandal, Margao and Shree Mahalaxmi Young Star, Bandora were named for the second and the third prizes.
The pro tem Speaker and city MLA Sidharth Kunkalienkar, speaking at a special function, said that the Panaji Shigmotsav has always been an apolitical festival, unlike Shigmotsavas in other Goan cities, which have political affiliations. He also stated that the Shigmotsav of Panaji is emulated by Shigmotsavas in other cities in the
state.
Speaking further, Kunkalienkar said that this year, the Panaji Shigmotsav witnessed many new decisions such as following disciplined schedule for the parade, registration of participating troupes on previous day, reporting by the participating troupes on time, and change of parade route.
The city legislator also felicitated senior artists namely Pandurang Kalghatgi (artiste), Santan Camilo Dias (Tiatrist), Shripad Shirodkar (Bhajani artiste) and Timoteo Fernandes (contributor to Carnival and Shigmotsav), for their respective contribution.
President of the Panaji Shigmotsav Samitee and the Commissioner of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Dipak Desai, in his welcome speech, said that in spite of the restrictions imposed due to the election code of conduct, which was in force due to the state assembly election, the Shigmotsav committee was able to successfully put up an attractive show.
He also observed that this year, the time of the city Shigmotsav parade was curtailed, from 5 pm to 10.30 pm, thus preventing the parade from continuing well past midnight.
Suyou Shigmotsav Mandal, Adpai, Sanvordem Shigmotsav Mandal, Sanvordem, and Curchorem Kakoda Shigmotsav Samiti, Curchorem were declared as the top three winners of prizes in the Romtamel category, while Siddhi Vinayak Mahalasa, Mardol, Shantadurga Vijayate, Mardol, and Gopal Krishna Kala Sangh, Priol were the first three prize winners in the folk dance category. Prizes were also announced in the fancy dress category for both senior and junior participants.
The Samiti members namely Mangaldas Naik and Shantaram Naik were also present.
The prizes will be distributed at a special function, at a later date.
After the function, a Lavni programme enthralled the audiences.
