Cops rescue abandoned senior citizen at New Vaddem

The police shifted a 60-yr-old man by jeep who was found semi-conscious in an open space at New Vaddem on Tuesday afternoon. Reports suggest that the person was first picked up by an ambulance and was dropped back to the same spot after giving first aid.

Locals intimated the Vasco police who in turn rushed to the site immediately and shifted him to the Cottage Hospital at Chicalim.

The Vasco police personnel were led by police sub-inspector Shivram Gawas, head constable Santosh Bhatkar and police constable Sachin Bandekar. Upon investigation from locals it was found that the senior citizen who is aged about 60-years-old was dropped back by the 108 ambulance after giving him first aid.

The police said that the attendant onboard the 108 ambulance van attached to Verna police station rejected the request of the police to take the person to a hospital for further treatment.

Police personnel later managed to shift the aged person to the Sub District Hospital at Chicalim with the help of a police jeep (Robert). “The health authorities would investigate the matter and initiate prompt action against anyone if they are found guilty of any inhuman act”, added the official of the health department.
