South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar has said that the Airport Authority of India is in the process of appointing structural consultant for implementation of revised recommendations of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in order to commission the multi-level car parking facility at Dabolim airport wherein the structural design recommended by the DRDO is likely to be finalised by March 31.
Sawaikar disclosed that he had written to the Minister for Civil Aviation P Ashok Gajapathi Raju on May 23, 2016 as regards the status of multi-level car parking facility created by the central government by investing crores of rupees, but lying unutilised.
Sawaikar disclosed that taxi operators and people in general who come to the airport to drop and pick up customers and family members face a lot of hardships due to unavailability of parking space there.
Sawaikar informed that the Minister for Civil Aviation Raju examined the letter addressed to him and discussed the issue in a meeting held on December 22, 2016.
“It emerged that the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) will grant the clearance for multi-level car parking facility at Goa airport after the recommendations of DRDO are incorporated,” he said, as per the reply given by the Minister of Civil Aviation to him. He said the Minister of Civil Aviation further informed that AAI team has discussed the matter with DRDO Chandigarh and suggested that recommendations be revised considering the practical constraints in the existing multi-level parking facility.
“AAI is in the process of appointing structural consultant for implementation of revised recommendations of DRDO and the structural design as recommended by DRDO is likely to be finalised by March 31,” said Sawaikar.
