PANAJI: The anti-Bharatiya Janata Party dictum of the Church, the medium of instruction issue, the amendment brought to the Goa Agriculture Tenancy Act including the ‘sunset clause’ and transferring pending tenancy cases from mamlatdars to the courts of senior civil judge, and the negative signals going to the scheduled tribe voters by denying the Canacona candidature to Ramesh Tawadkar are some of the reasons, which surfaced at the meeting of BJP candidates who lost the 2017 state assembly election, as held in the city headquarters of the party on Monday.
The meeting headed by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in the presence of state party president Vinay Tendulkar was aimed at analysing the defeats of these candidates, and preparing a related report.
The report is expected to be presented to national BJP president Amit Shah when he visits Goa on April 9.
The meeting of the defeated BJP candidates was attended by former chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar, other former ministers including Rajendra Arlekar, besides former MLAs including Rajan Naik and Ganesh Gaonkar.
Parsekar maintained that his defeat was due to some of his closer associates, who turned ‘double agents’ and silently worked for his rival. It was also observed that the defeat of both candidates of the BJP in the two constituencies in the Pernem taluka – Mandrem and Pernem – was due to the upper hand of the Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party observed in this taluka.
Aspects like corruption and arrogance were also discussed at the meeting.
Arlekar, told ‘The Navhind Times’ that the party discussed the possible reasons for the defeat of its candidates, and deliberated upon rectifying the possible mistakes committed.
“We also spoke about strengthening the organisation of the party in those constituencies, where the party candidates had failed,” he added.
Incidentally, the state BJP chief had recently observed that the Goans voted against the arrogance of the MLAs, during the recent state assembly election.
“People sometimes tolerate corruption but not arrogance, which is the lesson we have learnt from this election,” he had added, pointing out that his party is concerned over the defeat of its sitting MLAs and ministers at these polls.
